Meet The Team

Dr Sarah Hamlyn
GP Support Lead & Trainer
Seeing the skills of mentoring in action when I sought support from GP-S, I knew I wanted to be part of this great team. The training delivered through GP-S in 2017 was professional, supportive, and key in my overall development. I have been part of the training team since 2021, delivering several bespoke workshops and co-trained a group of healthcare professionals in becoming mentors themselves. I enjoy assisting in others growth and development, and even I continue to learn from each course as a trainer. Otherwise, I work mainly as a GP at the University practice, but am also a GP trainer, a teaching fellow at the university, an appraiser, a Botox administrator for the neurology team, and a mentor. In my spare time I love nature and running/walking outdoors every day, stroking my pet hamster Thor, and tending to my allotment. Nothing can beat a good movie with some sweet and salted popcorn!

I am passionate about effective support conversations that can facilitate insight and transformation. This has informed my interest in being a GP, mentor and coach over the last two decades. I have training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Compassionate Communication and Time to Think supervision techniques. I have completed a diploma in transformational coaching and I’m a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). I am currently undertaking an advanced diploma to register as a senior practitioner with the EMCC. I love training and supporting other mentors and coaches to discover their gift for this work. I am a GP Partner with a particular interest in dementia.

Currently working as a salaried GP, having worked as a GP partner for 14 yrs until 2016. I also work as a GP locum. I enjoy a varied working life as a portfolio GP encompassing being a GP appraiser, a GP-S mentor, a medical student tutor and a facilitator for mentoring training, both for GP-S and other organisations. I enjoy the flexibility and autonomy that these roles allow. Spend time supporting two teenage children and walking the dog, with a bit of reading and gardening squeezed in when possible!

Hello! I am a retained GP in Nottingham and GP Peer Mentor, working for GP-S, which I absolutely love! My original mentor training was based on the Egan skilled helper model, however I have also undertaken independent courses in Neurolinguistic Programming and recently a Career Coaching course. I also love to listen to coaching and mentoring related podcasts and explore other mentoring tools. I find it really enjoyable to facilitate on mentoring training courses and it is extremely satisfying to see prospective mentors becoming confident in using the Egan model and recognising its power and impact. In my spare time I am a voracious reader, I sing and play in local ensembles and I particularly love to travel to new places.

I have spent 35 years developing and supporting individuals and teams to achieve way beyond their expectations. My experience in designing, directing and managing change spans both the public and private sector. I continuously develop and implement initiatives around strategic business improvement/development. My extensive operational background provides adaptability, team leadership, excellent interpersonal skills and strong business awareness. Having completed the CIPD qualification I went on to undertake formal mentoring and coaching qualifications which I used as a Change Facilitator within the General Practice Task Force. I am passionate about supporting Primary Care through its current transition and firmly believe that coaching and mentoring has an important role here. When not working with the GP-S team I am enjoying catching up on lots of travelling, attempting to learn Italian and learning how to grow vegetables on my recently acquired allotment. I am a Foodbank volunteer and am on the Board of Trustees for Citizens Advice Mid Mercia.
